Donington Double

NGMSport were back in action at the weekend with a double victory for the Mosler of Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano in the latest round of the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship. It's been an uncomfortable season so far with only two outings so far in this year's championship both of which resulted in DNF's.

The most recent DNF at Silverstone necessitated an engine change for the Mosler so the Donington meeting represented an opportunity to finally kick start the season. Under clear blue skies the team made a statement of intent by claiming pole position in a difficult qualifying session where space for a clear lap was always at a premium. Morcillo was forced to circulate and risk a mid-grid start until in the final few minutes a gap opened up and he was able to take the top spot half a second in front of the second placed Ferrari 458 GT3.

Cintrano started race one and was happy to let the Ferrari sweep around the outside at Redgate and head off building into the lead. The Spaniard held onto P2 to the pit stop in the 50 minute race and aided by no pit stop penalties due to missing the last round, allowed Morcillo to rejoin in the lead which he held to the end of the race.

Race two was less straightforward as Cintrano started from pole again but dropped to fifth place early in the race but a solid and confident drive kept the Mosler in touch with the leaders until Morcillo took over for the second half. With the lead changing regularly as each front runner experienced a problem, Morcillo crept up the order and eventually took the lead on lap 61 with 30 minutes remaining.

His nearest challenger was the MacG Racing Taranis which had made its way through the field from the back of the grid and got to within a second of the Mosler before Morcillo eased the car away before crossing the line with a comfortable 50 seconds cushion. The Mosler's next outing will be at Oulton Park in October.
