Britcar Brands Hatch End of Season.

NGMSport brought their 2017 season to a close at the weekend with two eventful races in the final round of the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch. Saturday marked 25 years of racing for driver Javier Morcillo who on the 18th November 1992 started his first race at the Jerez circuit in Spain. A quarter of a decade later he lined up in P3 on the Brands Hatch grid in the NGMSport Mosler ready for the first sprint race of the weekend.

Heavy rain promised an interesting race on the short Brands Hatch Indy circuit and a red flag half way through ended any chance of a victory and put a serious dent into the hopes of a good result in the following days endurance race. Running in second place the Mosler was forced to stop on the grid along with the leading Ferrari whilst most of the rest of the field were able to enter the pit lane to complete the mandatory pit stop.

Having to take their pit stop at the race restart saw the Mosler tumble down the order and with the grid for the endurance race set by the finishing position, Manuel Cintrano had to claw back as many places as he could in the final 20 minutes of the race eventually taking the chequered flag in P19.

The weather on Sunday was cold but dry and starting from P19 Morcillo would potentially need the help of a safety car to bring the Mosler back in touch with the leading cars. With 25 years of racing experience to call on Morcillo instead produced a recovery drive master class and was up to P2 and less than a second behind the lead car within 15 minutes and taking just a further 6 laps to take the lead.

At the driver change Morcillo had dug out a 3 lap lead but with 45 minutes remaining co-driver Cintrano would have a hard job holding off the faster drivers behind him. With 30 minutes to go the RAW Motorsport Radical RXC took the lead and on the final lap, the Ferrari 458 GTE of Ross Wylie took P2 to confirm that cars overall championship victory.

Despite losing the lead, P3 from P19 was still a magnificent result to end the year on and sets the team up for new racing adventures in 2018.
